Coeur d’Alene police respond to uptick in car burglaries

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Police are currently investigating several auto burglaries that took place in Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday morning.

At around 8:20 a.m., the Coeur d’Alene Police Department received three reports of auto burglaries at the Lake City Academy in the 100 block of East Locust Ave.

Each of the three victims had stopped briefly to drop a child off at school, when their cars were targeted by the suspect. Each of the victims had their purses stolen during the crime.

Auto burglary is often committed by large criminal organizations from outside of the Coeur d’Alene area. These criminals tend to travel to cities to target schools, daycare facilities and gyms due to the higher likelihood that valuables are left inside.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department would like to remind citizens to lock their vehicles and take valuables out when they leave a car, even if they’re gone only for a few minutes.
