Cheney Police locate 3 homemade bombs after threats were made to local schools

CHENEY, Wash. — A juvenile is in custody after creating three homemade bombs and threatening to use them at a local school in Cheney.

On Nov. 15 around 2:50 p.m., Cheney police officers were dispatched to a report of a bomb threat made by a juvenile.

The juvenile had made claims that he made three improvised explosive devices (IED) with the intent to use them at a local school. Cheney Police Department worked with with Airway Heights Police Department, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Fairchild 92nd Security Forces and the City of Spokane Police Department to locate these homemade bombs.

All three devices were located and safely recovered. Two were found at a home in the City of Cheney while the third was found at a home in Spokane County.

As a precaution, a Military Working Dog that specializes in explosive detection was taken to search the WIN Academy and Cheney Middle School to make sure it was clear.

School districts in the area went back to normal operations and the Cheney Police Department ensured that there was no threat to the public.

The suspect who made these threats and created the three explosive devices has been taken into custody.
