CHENEY, Wash. – The Cheney Police Department (CPD) arrested a man for trying to elude an officer after driving erratically on Cheney Spokane Road.

In the early morning of Feb. 11, a CPD officer spotted and attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of 1st St. and Cheney Spokane Road.

The driver, later identified as Christian Meyer, 22 years old, refused to pull over and tried to evade the officer.

The officer suspected that the driver might be under the influence and initiated pursuit.

Meyer then sped up to 80 mph on Cheney Spokane Road and displayed erratic lane behavior.

Meyer eventually went off-road and crashed into a tree on the 9000 block of West Anderson Road. Meyer then fled on foot and disappeared into the woods.

CPD then called the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office for assistance to track down the fleeing Meyers.

At 9 a.m. of the same day, Meyers surrendered to the CPD and was charged with an Attempting to Elude felony.

Meyers had also been previously charged with a DUI arrest last month.
