OLYMPIA, Wash.- A policy requiring that all Washington school districts maintain a supply of opioid overdose reversal medication such as NARCAN is moving through the Legislature with unanimous approval.
SB 5804 would amend current state law, which only requires schools with over 2,000 students to have opioid reversal medication. If signed into law, the bill would require all public, tribal and charter schools to have NARCAN or a similar drug.
Primary sponsor Senator Patty Kuderer (D) hailed the passage of the bill as a step forward for safety in schools throughout the Evergreen State.
“The goal is to have these life-saving tools available for cases of both intentional and accidental exposure to opioids. We all wish we weren’t here as a nation, but we are. This bill is about saving lives,” Kuderer said.
Now that SB 5804 has passed the legislature, will return to the House for concurrence on amendments.
