PINEHURST, Idaho – The Pinehurst Police Department offered additional information on the death of Pastor Gene Jacobs on Wednesday.

Jacobs was reported missing to police by members of Real Life Ministries on Tuesday. The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office was involved in the search and Jacobs’ cell phone records were requested from his cell provider.

Pinehurst police say that Jacobs’ water bottle was found on a nearby hiking trail. Drones, planes, helicopters and K9 units searched the trail network.

“It was at approximately 6pm that Two Bear Air located Pastor Gene in a location off the trial,” the department said.

After recovering his body, Jacobs’ body was sent to the Shoshone County Coroner.

“Initial indication is that Pastor Gene Jacobs died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the department said.

An autopsy will be performed in the coming days according to law enforcement. Pinehurst police do not suspect foul play was involved in the pastor’s death.
