SPOKANE, Wash. — With Gonzaga basketball hosting its season opener, students have camped out all night on Herak Lawn ahead of the big game!

Kennel Campout“, also known as “Tent City”, has been a standing tradition for Gonzaga students since 2006. Gonzaga University describes it as, “the way students demonstrate their dedication to the Zags… a rite of passage during all students’ time at Gonzaga.”

Students are given the campout location on the day of the event. As soon as it is released, everyone rushes out to try and get the best tent.

The reason why everyone runs over is because your tent number is not only your assigned location within Kennel Campout, but it also determines the order you enter the Kennel.

According to a Gonzaga advisor, they estimated that this year over 500 students participated in “Kennel Campout” on Herak Lawn ahead of today’s big game!

The Gonzaga Bulldogs will be on their home court for their season opener against Ivy League Powerhouse, Yale.

Head coach Mark Few knows the challenge that Yale poses, “They have our full attention, and it’s not an ideal opener for us. But we’ll deal with the cards we’re dealt, and it’s going to be a good challenge for us. They’ll be smart, they’ll be tough, they’re super, super well-coached, and we’re looking forward to it.”

This year the Zags will be unveiling a talented team with a slew of new faces, as Yale brings a strong team.

The Kennel is going to be loud Friday night, while tickets are already sold out, the game will be broadcast live on Nonstop Local KHQ at 6:00 p.m.

It was also be live-streamed on SWX.
