Airway Heights couple arrested for assaulting a child

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – Airway Heights police arrested a Fairchild airman and a mother on Wednesday for assaulting a child.

On January 2024, the Airway Heights Police Department conducted a child abuse investigation after a Child Protect Services (CPS) worker brought a seven-year-old boy with bruises on his face and weight loss to Sacred Heart Medical Hospital.

CPS told police that a Sunset Elementary School counselor told them that the child had unexplained injuries to his face and had a significant amount of weight loss since returning from winter break. The counselor further reported the child was eating food and drinking milk from the garbage in the school.

Police then developed a probable cause after a thorough investigation and charged Marie L. Collins (the mother of the child), a 29-year-old, and her boyfriend Jared E. Reeves a 32-year-old an active duty member at FAFB, with numerous felony offenses

On March 6, 2024, Collins was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of First-degree Child Assault, Assault of a Child 3rd Degree Weapon or Negligent Injury, Criminal Mistreatment 1st Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment.

Jared E. Reeves was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of Assault of a Child 1st Degree, Assault of a Child 2nd Degree, Criminal Mistreatment 1st Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment.

This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released to the public.
