88-year-old man airlifted to Sacred Heart after car crash near Addy on Friday

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – A crash on Washington State Route 395 left one hospitalized in the afternoon of Friday, March 29.

At around 1:30 p.m., a 2006 Jeep Wagoneer was traveling southbound at milepost 214, approximately three miles south of Addy, Washington, when it reportedly struck a 1973 Mack dump truck from behind. Both vehicles came to a stop in the southbound lane after the collision, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The driver of the Jeep, William W Keyt, 88 of Rice, Washington, was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for his injuries. The Jeep was totaled in the crash.

Peter G Maresca, 58 of Chewelah was identified as the driver of the Mack dump truck and he reportedly sustained no injuries. The truck was damaged in the crash.

No charges have been given to either person involved in the crash, although Maresca is currently under investigation, according to a report from the WSP.

WSP officers have identified the cause of the crash to be following too closely. Involvement of drugs or alcohol in the crash is currently unknown.

Whether or not Keyt or Maresca were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash is also unknown, according to the WSP.
