LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Three Arkansas Supreme Court justices are locked in a tight battle to advance to a runoff election for chief justice this fall. The chief justice race in Tuesday’s election remained too early to call, but it headed toward the possibility of the court having its first woman elected chief justice this fall. Justices Karen Baker, Barbara Webb and Rhonda Wood led the four-candidate race for chief justice. Former state legislator Jay Martin was also running. In another court race, Justice Courtney Hudson was reelected to the court. Her victory over Circuit Judge Carlton Jones will hand Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders a new appointment to the court.
