SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Kayce Wayne and Alonzo Favel were arrested Friday in a residential area in Spokane Valley. They were both charged with residential burglary and possession of a controlled substance, other than marijuana.

Both Wayne and Favel have extensive criminal backgrounds.

Neighbors first realized something strange was going on in the home in Aug. 2023, when they saw a light turn on inside the house.

The home had appeared vacant for years, but a woman living in China owns the home.

Neighbors were concerned about potential squatters in their neighborhood, but they had no way of getting in touch with the property owner while she was in China.

“Without that homeowner’s actions, we felt absolutely helpless,” Susan Williams, a neighbor, said.

Neighbors would notice multiple visitors coming by the house at odd hours of the night.

“Especially at night, we noticed strange comings and goings at all hours of the day and night. Many different cars and packages being carried in and out,” Williams said.

One neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, says they were very worried about safety in their neighborhood. That source told NonStop Local that some of the visitors had been in verbal altercations with neighbors and even followed one neighbor in their car.

“We live almost right across the street. So, if there was any shooting that happened we were concerned about that, especially for our children. What if our children are playing outside… and they go between the houses. So, we didn’t really want them playing out in the front,” the neighbor said.

Law enforcement was contacted on multiple occasions, but there was really nothing that could be done, because with the owner unreachable and there was no victim.

The neighbors decided to put up a security camera facing the home where they could document any illicit activity. They would take photos of license plates and of any cars that visited the home.

Then, on Jan. 18 Spokane Valley deputies received word from an attorney representing the property owner in China. They stated that no one should be at the property and that anyone in the home had broken in.

This led to a search warrant and arrests.

While searching the home, detectives found drugs like methamphetamine and fentanyl. They also found mail and checks that are believed to be stolen.

Wayne and Favel made their first appearance in Spokane County Superior Court Monday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office told NonStop Local that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be added.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
