Porthill, Idaho – Shots were fired around 7 p.m. Saturday on Chisholm Hill Road in North Idaho. Undersheriff Rich Stephens from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office told NonStop Local that an argument broke out after a disagreement regarding an easement.

“If somebody is bringing a firearm, it escalates things exponentially real fast,” said Stephens.

Stephens added that multiple people and multiple firearms were involved in the dispute. The incident sent two people to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Stephens told NonStop Local the underlying cause of this disagreement was civil, but criminal charges could soon be coming, and so could arrests.

Stephens said the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office was quite concerned that firearms were used for what he believes could have potentially been resolved differently: “These disagreements happened because each side thinks they’re right on whatever the disagreement is. And the introduction of firearms is one of the worst things that somebody can do.”
