GRANT COUNTY, Wash. – One person hospitalized, and a suspect has been arrested following a shooting Friday evening near Royal City.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), deputies were called to

17000 block of Road 10 Southwest just after 6 p.m. and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest.

Deputies found one of the victims inside the kitchen area and the second victim outside the building, holding down the alleged shooter, 67-year-old Macario Mendez Tovar.

A silver and black pistol was found on the ground outside the kitchen facility.

Mendez Tovar was arrested on scene, and the two victims were flown to Wenatchee for treatment. One victim was treated and then released, and the second was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

When interviewed by investigators, Mendez Tovar said that he and the two victims were inside the kitchen area of the building and had been drinking when they started to argue about work problems.

That’s when deputies say Mendez Tovar pulled out a gun, shot and hit both victims.

Mendez Tovar remains in the Grant County Jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault. He is expected to have his first court appearance on Monday.
