SPOKANE, Wash. – A 14-time convicted felon is back in jail after stealing a car earlier this week, illegally possessing a gun and multiple Fentanyl pills.

On Sept. 19, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputy saw a man slumped over in a Honda Civic without license plates. The deputy, later identified as 30-year-old Nikolas Haven, approached the suspect to investigate. When Haven saw the deputy’s emergency lights, SCSO says he became alert, possibly looking for escape routes.

SCSO warned Haven that he would be detained and not to run. However, he took off running through a nearby yard.

Believing Haven was fleeing from a stolen vehicle, the deputy perused a chase. SCSO says Haven ran about 50 yards before tripping and falling on his back. He then complied with deputies and was safely detained.

When returning to the patrol car, Haven admitted the Honda was stolen, and he had warrants out for his arrest. SCSO confirmed that the vehicle was stolen on Sept. 17 and that Haven had an active Washington State Department of Corrections felony warrant for his arrest.

During their search, SCSO found four pills they believed to contain Fentanyl and a small straw in his front pocket. A gun was also found in the front passenger side of the stolen vehicle.

Haven has been booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Spokane Valley Investigative Unit Detectives also charged Haven with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
