SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A 14-time convicted felon was arrested after assaulting and threatening to kill a woman at her apartment in Spokane Valley Thursday afternoon.

On Jan. 18 around 3:40 p.m., Spokane Valley deputies responded to a domestic violence assault at an apartment in the 10100 block of east Main Avenue.

Once law enforcement arrived on scene, a woman near north Willow Road and Broadway Avenue said she left her apartment because she “feared for her life.” She said 60-year-old William L. Taylor assaulted her.

Allegedly during the assault, Taylor hit, kicked and attempted to suffocate the woman with a pillow. He held a gun to her head and allegedly blamed her for his actions while threatening to kill her.

Taylor left the apartment in a car and his whereabouts were unknown.

Later that evening, deputies got a search warrant for the apartment and established a perimeter around the complex. As they were on scene, deputies noticed that Taylor’s car was back at the apartment complex.

Due to his violent criminal history and knowing he was armed with a handgun, the SWAT Team was called to assist.

Before they arrived, Taylor exited his apartment and was quickly taken into custody by law enforcement. During the search of the apartment, deputies found evidence on a pillow and seized a pistol with its magazine loaded in a tent bag.

William Taylor is a 14-time convicted felon, including convictions of assault and burglary which prohibits him from carrying a firearm.

He has been transported and booked into Spokane County Jail for two counts of second degree assault, harassment-threats to kill and unlawful possession of a firearm.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
