SPOKANE, Wash. — One person is injured and a suspect has been arrested after a shooting that occurred in northwest Spokane Tuesday afternoon.

Around 11:20 a.m. on Jan. 2, Spokane police officers were dispatched to a possible shooting on north Sutherlin Street in northwest Spokane.

As crews arrived on scene, a woman was seen pacing outside of a house on her cellphone. She said that there was a man with a gun inside the home and three children were in the basement.

As police officers entered the home they found the children and another adult barricaded in the basement armed with a knife.

The man who was armed with a gun was taken into custody without altercation. Deputies believe that there is no other threat to the public.

According to Lt. Terry Preuninger, all individuals seem to know each other. The man who had a gun allegedly was involved in an altercation with another man and possibly two other women. The man was reported to have been shot by the suspect and ran into the woods.

Law enforcement was able to find him and transport him to the hospital to be treated for what looks to be a gunshot wound.

According to witnesses in the area, they say that there has been some ongoing stress or conflict at that home over the past 24 hours.

It has been reported that other adults have arrived on scene to take custody of the children while law enforcement continue investigating the incident.

They currently have the area around the residence closed and westbound traffic on Francis Avenue has been closed at Greenwood Boulevard while law enforcement is on scene.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
