1 dead after fatal motorcycle accident in the backcountry of Kootenai County

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — A man from Moses Lake is dead after crashing his motorcycle in the backcountry of Kootenai County.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), deputies responded to a call about a motorcycle that went off Forest Service Road 437 and crashed in an embankment around 2:50 p.m. on May 26. The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Austin Vickery from Moses Lake.

According to KCSO, Vickery was believed to be unconscious when the KSCO Backcountry Unit, Traffic Unit, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Northern Lakes Fire arrived. He was later pronounced dead.

Deputies learned that the motorcyclist was driving on a curve when he lost control and hit a tree. He was thrown off of his motorcycle and went into the embankment.

According to KCSO, speed is believed to be a factor in this crash, and this incident is under investigation.
