SPOKANE, Wash. – Children from the Northeast Youth Center visited Fairmount Memorial Park to learn about honoring veterans.
The day began with the kids placing American flags and pennies on several gravesites. They explained that the pennies symbolize that someone visited and paid their respects to the soldiers.
“I think the biggest significance students are taking away today is education about freedom, about the military, about cemeteries and why we have cemeteries and why we honor veterans. They’re learning all of that today,” Sheila Geraghty, Executive Director of the Northeast Youth Center, said.
