SPOKANE, Wash. – An 11-year-old boy from Spokane achieved a remarkable feat in the world of competitive horseshoes this summer.

Jeremiah DeMello and his family traveled to Sandy, Utah, for the World Championship round in July. By the end of the competition, Jeremiah secured the title of world champion in his division.

Jeremiah’s brother, Wayde DeMello, expressed his amazement at the achievement.

“It was unbelievable that that kid he was going against was the defending champion – when he won that – it was amazing,” Wayde said.

Despite the victory, Jeremiah remains humble about his accomplishment.

“Getting to play with everybody – having fun and stuff. That’s what means a lot to me,” Jeremiah said.

Jeremiah practices with his friends and family throughout the year in a backyard horseshoe pit. His parents view the sport as a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time together.
