Young runners take on Junior Bloomsday race at Spokane Falls Community College

SPOKANE — Young runners hit the tracks this morning for the annual Junior Bloomsday race, getting their own runners high just a couple of weeks before Bloomsday.

The mile – long course for Junior Bloomsday takes place at Spokane Falls Community College. While the actual Bloomsday race has no age requirement, runners under 13 cannot participate in the top seed, making Junior Bloomsday a fun alternative.

Some kids took their training seriously, with one young runner announcing their time.

“I got five minutes and 52 seconds,” said one participant.

Racers were encouraged to run the course as many times as they liked, and some ran it several times.

“I ran it twice…,” one participant said.

Some shared the mile didn’t feel long.

Some proceeds from the race are being shared with a nonprofit called Active4Youth. The organization runs a free after-school cross country program that takes place in the fall across several elementary schools in Spokane. Students can enroll in this program for free.
