Yakima homeless camp fire damages ICE office fence, rock breaks window

UPDATE: August 5 at 3:05 p.m.

According to Jeremiah Stilley from the Yakima Fire Department (YFD), the fire broke out in a homeless encampment and reached the fence line of the ICE office, causing only damage to the fence.

Five minutes before the fire started, a rock was thrown through a window of the ICE office, Stilley said.

Described as a potential arson, Stilley said YFD is collaborating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to investigate.

Currently, there is one person of interest, but no suspect has been identified.

YAKIMA, Wash. – An office used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was targeted with arson and vandalism on Saturday, August 2, the Department of Homeland Security shared on X.

“On Saturday, a cowardly rioter threw a rock through a window of a building that ICE has a sub-office in. Additionally, a small fire was set in the back of the building.”

No injuries have been reported in connection to this incident.

A suspect has not been identified yet and the investigation is ongoing.
