YAKIMA, Wash. – A wildfire that started on the east side of I-82 has intensified, prompting Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders as winds have shifted.
Jeremiah Stilley from the Yakima Fire Department reported that the fire, which began yesterday, has become more active today.
Embers jumped the road, igniting the roof of the Gear Jammer Truck Stop, where crews are currently working to control the situation.
Evacuations are in place for both sides of the Yakima River, south of the Nob Hill overpass to the I-82 bridge by Union Gap.
Additionally, the Greenway is closed south of Nob Hill Blvd. and Hwy 24.
Residents are urged to follow evacuation orders for their safety.
