WSU renames Spokane campus facility in honor of former president Schulz

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University (WSU) announced on Friday that a unanimous vote by the WSU Board of Regents called for the renaming of the Spokane Health Sciences Campus facility in honor of former president Kirk Schulz.

Schulz is currently in the midst of a year-long sabbatical, offering assistance and consultation for the new WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell. After this sabbatical period he will officially retire from the university.

Schulz, who is on a year-long sabbatical, is set to retire after assisting new WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell.

The renaming decision followed letters of support from numerous WSU community members, including nine former, current and future Faculty Senate chairs, five former student regents and previous community leaders from WSU’s governing board.

According to WSU, the proposal to rename the building was initially submitted by Lisa Keohokalole Schauer, the Immediate Past Chair.

Following the unanimous vote, the building will be named the Kirk H. Schulz Academic Center.
