
WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. – The Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office announced a Washington State University (WSU) student has been convicted of one count of rape in the third degree.
The attack occurred on the WSU campus in April 2024.
According to Tessa Scholl, Senior Deputy Prosecutor in a press release, Erick Lea now faces 6-12 months in jail, with sentencing set for July 25, 2025.
Upon release, Lea will be required to register as a sex offender for ten years and will be under supervision by the Department of Corrections.
Additionally, a five-year Sexual Assault Protection Order will be in place for the victim,.
Scholl praised the victim’s courage during the trial, “Without her unending strength on the stand and throughout the trial, a conviction would not have been possible.”
Scholl expressed gratitude toward Sergeant Brett Boyd for his investigative work, highlighting his contributions to the safety of Washington State University students.
