SPOKANE, Wash. – Washington State University (WSU) and Spokane Public Schools announced on Thursday their partnership to create a “new community-based primary care clinic located inside Logan Elementary School,” according to a press release.
The off-campus health clinic will be the first of its kind for WSU, and operated by WSU health.
The clinic is now scheduling appointments, and will be open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. According to WSU’s website, it will officially open in March.
“With the Logan Family Clinic, we’re making quality health care easier to reach and closer to home,” WSU President Betsy Cantwell said. “Partnering with Spokane Public Schools allows us to serve families right in their neighborhood, marking an important milestone for WSU and the communities we’re here to support.”
WSU said the clinic will be staffed by faculty with the Colleges of Nursing and Medicine, and offer primary care services to children, families and residents of the Logan neighborhood.
“Embedded in an elementary school, the clinic is designed to increase health care access and reduce barriers to care, particularly for students and their parents who struggle to make appointments around work schedules,” WSU said.
Spokane Public Schools also expressed optimism about the clinic’s outcomes on the health of the local community.
“With the clinic located right in our school community, care is more accessible and family-friendly,” SPS Superintendent Adam Swinyard said. “It removes transportation challenges, reduced missed class or work time, and helps ensure our students are healthy and able to learn and be successful.”
