SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) addressed inaccuracies surrounding the funding for the North Spokane Corridor.
On Friday, the City of Spokane announced it had received $51.7 million for the project. However, WSDOT clarified that these funds are administered by the state, not the city.
“The city itself does not receive these funds. The state, specifically the department of transportation will be administering these funds for construction,” Ryan Overton, WSDOT Communications Manager, stated.
WSDOT noted that the figures quoted by the city were also “wildly inaccurate.” The state’s transportation budget allocated $375 million for the North Spokane Corridor for the 2025-2027 biennium, after WSDOT’s request of an additional $275 million was approved due to inflation and rising construction costs.
“We are unsure where the city are getting these figures or why the city is speaking on behalf of a state project,” Overton added.
