SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A pedestrian died in a fatal crash on Sprague Avenue near McDonald Road late in the morning on December 3.

Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive person in the road at 10:30 a.m. that day. When deputies arrived, CPR was already being performed on the victim.

Deputies, a Washington State Trooper and citizens at the scene all assisted in CPR and life-saving measures until Spokane Valley Firefighters and medical personnel took over medical care.

Despite the efforts, the victim died at the scene.

A release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said information gathered at the scene suggests that the victim, an adult woman, was crossing Sprague Avenue on foot from the south side of the street when she “inexplicably collapsed.”

The department said traffic going west largely avoided the body, even though the night was dark.

One car hit the woman. When deputies talked to the driver, she was cooperative, did not show signs of impairment and was released without charges.

The Sheriff’s Office said it had not determined what caused the victim to collapse in the road.

The investigation is ongoing. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information to contact Corporal J. Welton at (509)-477-3237, reference #10171545.
