SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A deputy with the Spokane Valley Police Department (SVPD) arrested a female suspect, described as “erratic” and “possibly high/intoxicated,” on Monday after she damaged the wood door of a residence with a stolen pry bar.
The incident began around 1:40 p.m. when SVPD responded to a report of vehicle prowling near East 10th Avenue and South Oberlin Road. A caller reported that a woman had entered a vehicle and stolen a “claw” tool.
Upon arrival, an SVPD deputy located the 36-year-old suspect running in front of a residence in the 1000 block of South Oberlin Road. The deputy ordered her to stop, but she ignored the commands and began hitting the front door with the stolen tool.
The deputy prepared to use his taser and requested additional police units, repeatedly commanding the suspect to drop the pry bar. Despite her refusal to get on the ground, the deputy successfully de-escalated the situation and took her into custody.
SVPD stated that the suspect admitted to stealing the pry bar from a truck, and the tool was returned to its owner. After being cleared by medics, she was booked into Spokane County Jail on a charge of felony malicious mischief.
