SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. – A woman and her dog were rescued from icy waters at Gold Creek Pond on Thursday, January 15.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident and immediately requested assistance from Kittitas County Fire District 7, Snoqualmie Pass Fire & Rescue and Eastside Fire & Rescue. Eastside Fire’s ice-rescue team, which was training nearby, quickly arrived on the scene.
The woman had been in the freezing water long enough to raise concerns. Fortunately, the quick response and teamwork of the agencies involved led to the successful rescue of both the woman and her Akita.
Authorities warn that ice can appear solid but fail unexpectedly, especially in moderate winters. Residents are urged to stay off frozen ponds and lakes unless the ice is confirmed safe. If someone falls through, call 911 and avoid going onto the ice yourself.
