SPOKANE, Wash. – Several local residents have reportedly seen recent credit card charges from “Wingstop 728” on their accounts—even if they’ve never eaten there.
Many locals have shared their experiences and expressed concern on social media after receiving these charges.
Julia Fry, Regional Manager of Wingstop 728 locations in Spokane and Newport said in a statement to NonStop Local that they are aware of the scam and insisted it is not affiliated with the chain.
“We have been made aware of an ongoing credit card fraud scheme impacting individuals int he Spokane area in which unauthorized transactions are appearing on bank statements under the merchant name ‘Wingstop,'” Fry said. “The individuals responsible for this scheme are falsely labeling transactions as Wingstop in an attempt to avoid detection and reduce suspicion from cardholders and financial institutions.”
The FBI has opened an investigation into the matter, according to Fry.
In the meantime, anyone seeing unfamiliar charges from “Wingstop 728” on their accounts are encouraged to immediately dispute the charge with their financial institution and call 311 to file a report with Spokane police.
“We understand the concern and frustration this situation may cause for those affected, and we sincerely regret the stress this fraudulent activity may have created,” Fry said.
