As winds begin to ease and storm clean-up begins, there won’t be much time to rest before Mother Nature throws in some wintry weather for us to deal with.
Plan Your Thursday
The strongest winds are over, but it will still be windy today with gusts up to 40 mph until the late afternoon.
Heavy snow continues in the mountains; Snoqualmie, Stevens, and Lookout Passes will see a few feet of new snow in the next 24 hours. Wet weather in the form of snow or a wintry mix becomes more likely Thursday evening in North Idaho and around the Palouse. Temperatures drop to freezing overnight, bringing snow chances down into the valleys and lowlands for late tonight and Friday morning.
What We’re Tracking
Snow returns to the valleys on Friday morning, particularly from Coeur d’Alene east to Lookout Pass and south to St. Maries and Bovill.
This is a complicated forecast thanks to a warm front being draped across the area tonight. North of the front it will be snowy, and south of the front it will rain. This makes the possibilities for snow amounts much wider than usual. You should prepare as if it will be a snowy Friday morning, even though that will not be the case for everyone.
Heavy mountain snow persists through Friday Night before conditions dry out on Saturday. High temperatures will reach the 40s on Saturday with chilly overnight lows in the teens. A warm front arrives Sunday morning, transitioning mountain snow to rain as temperatures climb. Looking ahead to next week, a significant warming trend is expected. Highs will reach the 50s and 60s, with potential for 70s in the Columbia Basin.
