SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Fire Department announced that wildfire risk reduction efforts on the South Hill Bluff have covered 212 acres since October 2025.
Private contractors have used mastication, chipping and hand-crew operations to lower hazardous fuels and enhance forest health throughout the city.
Crews are finalizing the chipping and touch-up work, with completion expected later this month.
To learn more about the project, the community is invited to a project update on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Spokane, located at 1428 West 9th Avenue.
Nick Jeffries from the Spokane Fire Department, along with representatives from Spokane Parks and Recreation and Friends of the Bluff, will present the project details and answer questions. The meeting is open to the public and media.
