Legendary composer Stephen Schwartz—winner of Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, and an honorary Tony award—has announced that he will no longer perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after the building’s name change.

Schwartz was listed on the center’s website to appear in a May gala, but has since been removed.

The Kennedy Center board, most of whom were appointed by President Trump in January, voted on December 18 to re-name the facility the Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Schwartz is one of many artists who have recently departed from the center’s performance schedule. The producers of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” also canceled a planned run at the center in March and April 2026.

Schwartz is most well known for composing “Wicked,” which has become a two-part Blockbuster film set directed by Jon M. Chu.
