Whitman County elementary school teacher arrested for sexual misconduct

ST JOHN, Wash – A first grade teacher in Whitman County is under arrest, charged with sexual misconduct with a minor.

The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year-old Mackenzie Naught Sunday.

Investigators were acting on a tip about an “inappropriate relationship” between Naught and a student.

The St. John-Endicott School District website says Naught is a first grade teacher at the school.

Naught will be in court for her first appearance Monday.

The St. John School District issued the following statement regarding the arrest:”At this time, St. John School District is aware of allegations involving a district employee that are currently being reviewed by law enforcement. The employee has been placed on leave and will not be on campus during this process. The District is cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities and will also be conducting its own investigation into the allegations. Out of respect for the integrity of the ongoing investigations, student privacy, and legal considerations, the District will not be providing additional details or engaging in speculation at this time. Our priority continues to be the safety, well-being, and support of our students and school community. We understand situations like this can create concern, questions, and emotions throughout a small community, and we ask that everyone approach this matter with care and respect while the appropriate process unfolds. We also expect staff to continue maintaining the highest level of professionalism during this time.Should additional verified information become available that the District is able to share, we will communicate further at the appropriate time.Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
