
Communities around the United States celebrate November as Native American Heritage Month, hosting and attending events celebrating tribal history and culture.
Although many of the month’s public festivities took place in the first half of the month, there are still events throughout the region for the public to attend. The list does not include events celebrating Native American Heritage that are not specific to the month.
Here is a list of a few noteworthy Native American Heritage Month events throughout eastern Washington, Northern Idaho and Montana.
Eastern Washington
Northern Quest Resort and Casino is hosting various events throughout the entire month to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. In addition to featuring customary cuisine at the venue’s restaurants, the month’s events included a and a . Upcoming events can be found at the Northern Quest website.
Yakima Valley College is hosting its annual powwow on November 15 to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. The event will take place at Kaminski Conference Center, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and grand entry is at noon.
Northern Idaho
University of Idaho hosted several events commemorating Native American Heritage Month, including hosting Mariah Gladstone, a member of the Blackfeet and Cherokee tribes and founder of Indigikitchen, a cooking show focusing on foods indigenous to the Americas.
On November 17, the university will host a screening of “Smoke Signals,” a comedy film following two men living on the Coeur d’Alene reservation.
The Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort and Hotel is offering a Native American Art Market from November 21 to November 23, featuring vendors selling jewelry, paintings, beadwork and other art pieces.
Montana
The Billings Pow-Wow will take place at the Metrapark expo center from November 21 to November 22. The event will feature a traditional dance competition and celebrate culture, community and remembrance of Native American tradition.
The Missoula Public Library is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a month-long art display with Dre Costello and Monica Gilles. The library is also hosting Buck Hitswithstick, a Native artist.
