WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – As the aftermath of extreme flooding continues to impact our region, residents are now grappling with the necessary repairs to their homes after being battered by moving waters.
Relief organizations like Samaritan’s Purse have stepped in to address hundreds of aid requests. They are currently working in Whatcom County, salvaging personal items and cleaning water-damaged parts of homes.
“This is the worst people feel after a disaster… they don’t know where to turn, they don’t know what to do and they don’t know the next step, so to be able to come in and just show them that next step, to be a shoulder to lean on, to hear their stories and just walk with them in their time of need, it’s very humbling,” said a representative from the organization.
In Western Washington, cleanup efforts are underway to remove debris pulled by rushing waters. The Washington National Guard is also preparing and securing levees ahead of more precipitation expected next week.
