SPOKANE, Wash. – West Maxwell Avenue will be closed from North Walnut Street to North Elm Street starting Monday, August 25 through Friday, September 19.
This closure is for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project, according to the City of Spokane Communications Manager, Kristin Davis.
The project aims to enhance bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along Maxwell Ave., connecting the West Central Neighborhood to nearby amenities like AM Cannon Park and the Centennial Trail.
Improvements include new sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalk enhancements.
During the closure, northbound Maple Street and Southbound Ash Street will stay open at their intersections with Maxwell Avenue. However, Ash Street will have reduced lanes between Spofford Avenue and Maxwell Avenue.
Eastbound drivers on Pettet Drive will be detoured at Belt Street to Indiana Street, while westbound drivers on West Maxwell Avenue will be rerouted at Monroe Street to either Northwest Boulevard or Boone Avenue.
Pedestrians should expect sidewalk detours.
Local access will be available during non-working hours.
The project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, Arterial Street Fund, and the Washington Climate Commitment Act (CCA). More information about the CCA can be found on their website.
