Wenatchee skater competes at U.S. Figure Skating Nationals in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The US Figure Skating National Championships are currently underway in St. Louis, Missouri, with athletes vying for a spot on Team USA for the upcoming Olympics.

Liam Kapeikis, the 2020 U.S. National Junior Bronze Medalist from Wenatchee, Washington, recently competed in the men’s short program. Kapeikis is currently in eighth place with a season’s best score of 78.86.

He is 10 points away from reaching the podium. In third place is Jason Brown, a fan favorite who is a multi-time national champion, a multi-time Olympian and an Olympic bronze medalist.

Selections for Team USA are determined by scores at the nationals and the previous year’s international résumé, with points from the Grand Prix circuit also considered.
