Washington’s unemployment rate slightly above national average

WASHINGTON — The Washington Employment Security Department has released its latest unemployment data for November, detailing rates by county.

In Asotin County and Benton County, unemployment is tied for the lowest in the state at 3.4%.

Spokane, Adams and Chelan counties follow closely with rates hovering around 4.5%.

Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Grant and Ferry counties are outliers, with unemployment rates around 6% and above.

Statewide, the average unemployment rate is 4.6%, slightly higher than the national rate of 4.2%.

The report highlights that the largest job gains in the private sector were in education and health services.

Conversely, the deepest losses occurred in manufacturing, wholesale trade and construction.

In November, unemployment benefits were provided to approximately 68,000 people statewide.
