Washington’s new game management plan faces criticism from all sides

WASHINGTON — Washington’s newly approved game management plan is facing criticism from hunters and environmental groups alike. This plan, unanimously approved by the State Fish and Wildlife Commission, sets management goals for deer, elk, bears and other game.

The game management plan does not alter hunting regulations but instead presents findings from the latest research on population needs. It also outlines how state funding will be allocated to protect wild game.

Critics argue that the plan either goes too far in restricting some species or is poorly constructed and too lenient. Despite these criticisms, the plan’s authors emphasize that it is intended as a guiding document rather than a strict policy.
