Washington to ban sale of common ivy plants starting August 9

WASHINGTON – The sale of common ivy and Atlantic Boston ivy will soon be prohibited in Washington. The Washington State Department of Agriculture has added these plants to its list of noxious weeds. This decision highlights concerns about the impact of ivy on tree stability, as the vines can increase the risk of trees falling during storms by adding extra weight.

The new regulation, banning the sale of these ivy varieties, will take effect on August 9.
