PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University (WSU) researchers have developed a new forecasting tool that estimates snow-water equivalent, which helps predict annual water supply.
The research team, from the biological systems and electrical engineering departments, presented at a conference in Singapore, claiming their tool outperforms existing forecasting methods in about 90% of locations for daily forecasts and 70 to 80% for weekly forecasts.
WSU believes this innovative tool will aid areas in making better decisions regarding water management with its ability accurately forecasting mountain water availability.
