WASHINGTON — Denise Waiting, a licensed veterinary technician at Washington State University, is gearing up for a prestigious event with her canine companion. Next week, she and her 3-and-a-half-year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi named Witton will take the stage at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden.

More than 2,500 dogs from across the nation will compete, but only the top dogs receive an invitation. Witton earned her spot by ranking fourth in her breed nationwide.

Waiting expressed her sentiments about the competition, saying she always feels like she’s taking home the best dog, win or lose.

The event is scheduled for next Monday and will be broadcast nationally on Fox Sports.
