WASHINGTON STATE – As we approach the new year, residents of Washington State should be aware of several changes in state laws set to take effect in 2026.
The minimum wage will see an increase, rising to $17.13 per hour starting January 1.
Significant changes are also coming to the state’s Paid Family and Medical Leave program.
The minimum amount of time an employee must miss in a week to be eligible for paid leave will decrease from eight hours to four hours.
Additionally, job protection eligibility will now require employees to have worked at their company for at least six months before their leave starts, rather than the previous requirement of one year.
Washington’s child support standards will also expand with the new year.
These changes reflect ongoing efforts to support workers and families across the state. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about how these new regulations may impact them.
