Washington state is set to enforce stricter laws against impaired driving following the passage of a new house bill during the 2023-24 legislation season. This bill introduces significant changes to the state’s DUI laws.
One of the key changes is the extension of the look-back period for repeat DUI offenders from 10 years to 15 years. This means individuals with three or more DUI-related convictions within the last 15 years could face felony charges for new offenses, rather than being charged with another gross misdemeanor.
The bill also provides clarity on when offenders must apply for a probationary license or when they might be exempt from using an ignition interlock device.
