SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is urging visitors to celebrate the Fourth of July responsibly on state parks and beaches.
The commission emphasizes the importance of reducing trash to protect the environment and wildlife.
Last year, volunteers collected more than 129,000 pounds of trash from Washington beaches on July 5. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, follow beach safety rules, and pack out what they pack in to prevent harm to wildlife and pets.
Fireworks are banned on state park lands, and violators may face a $99 fine. Drivers should adhere to a 25 mph speed limit on beaches and remain vigilant for pedestrians and pets.
State Parks, in collaboration with Washington CoastSavers, will host a beach cleanup on July 5. Volunteers can participate without pre-registration by visiting CoastSavers.org for details.
