OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding residents about fire safety protocols ahead of Labor Day weekend.

“Labor Day weekend is a time for celebration and relaxation, but it is also a period when increased outdoor activities can elevate the risk of fire accidents,” the fire marshal’s office wrote.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office asks that residents and visitors:

Comply with all local burn bans Always use grills outdoors when barbecuing, positioned away from buildings, decks, and branches Ensure your car’s exhaust system is working normally, and never park on dry grass Secure all boats and trailers before traveling and ensure no chains are dragging on the roadway Do not use consumer fireworks, as they are prohibited during this time of year under Washington State law.

In 2024, fire department across Washington responded to over 4,600 incidents on Labor Day, resulting in $2 million in property losses.
