BOISE, Idaho – The Washington State Cougars capped off their season with a thrilling victory at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, marking their first bowl game win since 2018.

The Cougars faced Utah State, who will become conference opponents next year, in a spirited matchup. Washington State quarterback Zevi Eckhaus threw a 41-yard pass to Mackenzie Alleyne for the game’s first touchdown, marking the freshman’s career first.

The Cougar defense, which had been strong all season, continued to shine. Matthew Durrance intercepted a pass near the end of the first quarter, keeping the Aggies from scoring.

In the second quarter, Hudson Cedarland scored his first touchdown of the season, giving the Cougars a 14-0 lead at halftime. By the fourth quarter, Washington State led 20-7. Eckhaus threw another impressive pass to Landon Wright for a 39-yard score, sealing the victory.

Interim Head Coach Jesse Bobbit celebrated the win, despite the team losing Head Coach Jimmy Rogers earlier in the year. Quarterback Zevi Eckhaus emphasized the importance of player leadership.

“But the biggest thing the better teams have, is that they’re player-led,” Eckhaus said. “Obviously the coaches, they set the foundation and then us as players, we have to run with it.”
