Washington – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a Salmonella outbreak that occurred in several states, including one case in Washington. They linked the outbreak to a recalled frozen sprout beans.
The recall was issued by Chetak LLC Ground for Deep brand frozen spouted moong beans and frozen sprouted moth beans on July 16, 2025.
Eleven people in ten states have gotten sick so far. Four of these people have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.
The CDC said that no one should eat the recalled Deep brand frozen sprouted beans. Instead, the beans should be thrown away or returned to where they were bought.
They also said that any surface touched by the beans should be washed using hot soapy water and that people should call their healthcare provider if they are experiencing any severe Salmonella symptoms.
Salmonella systems include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps for six hours to six days after being exposed to the bacteria.
The illness lasts four to seven days and most people recover without treatment. However, in some people, the illness may be so severe that the patient is hospitalized.
