Washington officials expand COVID-19 vaccine recommendations

Health officials in Washington are taking a different approach from the CDC by expanding their COVID-19 vaccine recommendations. The state’s Department of Health now advises that everyone aged six months and older should receive the updated vaccine, regardless of underlying conditions.

This marks a departure from current CDC guidance, which limits the vaccine to seniors and high-risk individuals. Washington is aligning its recommendations with medical groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Officials have warned that the vaccine supply may be limited through September as providers await shipments of the updated formula. Despite this, the vaccine will remain covered by most insurance plans and will be available for free through state programs later this fall.
