Washington offers disaster relief for flood-impacted businesses, property owners

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Revenue is providing support to businesses and property owners affected by recent flooding in Washington.

Businesses unable to file and pay excise tax returns on time can request a filing extension from Revenue before the deadline. A penalty waiver is also available for qualified businesses that missed the extension request deadline.

Property owners with flood-damaged properties may apply to their County Assessor for a reduction in taxable property value. Eligible owners could see reduced property taxes for 2025 and possibly 2026.

“It’s important that the people know the Department of Revenue is ready to help them navigate these difficult times,” said Acting Director John Ryser.

Flood-impacted businesses can also apply for credit for damaged timber, reschedule audits or hearing and request a penalty waiver for late business license renewals.

Revenue is also assisting counties with changes to property values and the effects on local levies and tax bills.
